Fishing Intelligence
Sockeye Salmon (July–August)
The tidal push at Kenai City Pier directly correlates with Sockeye salmon moving into the lower Kenai River. The 2–3 hours before high tide is the highest-percentage bite window for fresh, sea-liced fish.
Silver Salmon (August–September)
Coho ride the incoming tide hard. Watch the rate of change — a fast-rising tide concentrates silvers in the tidal zone near the river mouth.
Dipnetting Season
The Kenai River personal use dipnetting fishery is heavily influenced by tides. High tides push fish in concentrated schools into the lower river dipnetting zones.
