Expert Checklist

What to Pack for Your Kenai River Fishing Trip

Alaska weather changes fast. Our guides have seen everything — clients in flip-flops in 42°F rain, no sunscreen on cloudless 70°F days. Don't be that angler. Here's exactly what to bring.

🎣 Fishing Gear

  • Valid Alaska fishing license + king stamp (if applicable)
  • Polarized sunglasses (game-changer for spotting fish)
  • Rod & reel (or let us provide — all-inclusive available)
  • Extra leaders and terminal tackle
  • Knife for cleaning (we have on-board, but handy)

🧥 Clothing

  • Waterproof rain jacket & pants (non-negotiable)
  • Fleece or wool mid-layer
  • Wool or synthetic base layer (no cotton)
  • Waterproof boots or rubber-soled shoes
  • Warm hat + sun hat (Alaska has both extremes)

🍱 Food & Comfort

  • High-energy snacks — protein bars, jerky, trail mix
  • Thermos of coffee or tea (early mornings hit different)
  • Sandwich or lunch if booking a full-day trip
  • Sunscreen SPF 30+ (glacier glare is brutal)
  • Motion sickness remedy if prone on moving water

📦 For Your Catch

  • Cooler (we provide on-board ice)
  • Heavy-duty Ziploc bags or vacuum bags
  • Pre-arranged fish shipping if flying home
  • TSA fish-in-luggage rules printed (we can help)
