Silver Salmon Season
Silver Salmon on the Kenai: Alaska's Adrenaline Fish
If you've never had a silver salmon cart-wheel five feet out of the water on a tight line, you haven't experienced Alaska fishing. Coho are aggressive, chrome-bright in August, and pound-for-pound the most exciting salmon fight on the river. Oh, and they're absolutely delicious.
How to Catch Silver Salmon on the Kenai
- ▸Plugs & spoons — Coho hit anything flashy with aggression. Blue Fox spinners and silver spoons are our go-to.
- ▸Fly fishing streamers — Coho are aggressive fly-takers. Clouser minnows and Deceiver patterns get eaten hard.
- ▸Back-bouncing — Drift beads and cured roe near the bottom for a more subtle but deadly approach.
- ▸Troll-fishing tidal sections — Early season silvers fresh from the ocean smash trolled hoochies and spoons near the mouth.
Silvers are widely considered the best-eating Pacific salmon. The fat content in an August coho rivals king salmon — and at a fraction of the price per trip. Our guides will clean, fillet, and vacuum-seal your catch same-day.
