First-Timer's Alaska Guide
First Alaska Fishing Trip? Here's Everything You Need to Know
We guide hundreds of first-timers every season. The most common question we get: "I've never done this before — what should I expect?" Here's the complete answer.
The Kenai is the world's most famous salmon fishery. Prime dates — especially the July 4th sockeye run and late-June king peak — book out months in advance. Don't wait until May to call about July.
Buy online at ADF&G's portal. Non-residents pay $145/year or $25/day. Add the king salmon stamp (+$25) if you're targeting kings. We verify licenses before departure.
Layers. Always layers. Alaska mornings are cold (40–55°F), afternoons can hit 75°F, and rain is possible any day. Waterproof rain gear is non-negotiable. We provide gear on all-inclusive trips.
We launch at 7am sharp from our private ramp. Our guides run a 24-foot drift boat with 4 fishing stations. You'll be fishing within 10 minutes of launch. We do all the rigging.
We clean and vacuum-seal your salmon on-site. You'll leave with labeled, frozen fillets ready for your cooler or our recommended fish shipper. Most guests ship 30–60 lbs home.
Soldotna is your hub — 10 minutes from our launch point. We recommend Kenai River Lodge, Soldotna B&B, or nearby RV parks along the river for the full Alaska experience.
