7-Day Kenai Itinerary
The Perfect 7-Day Kenai Peninsula Fishing Trip
A week on the Kenai Peninsula is enough time to hit every species, explore multiple rivers, and leave with enough salmon to fill your freezer for a year. Here's how we'd plan it.
Land at ANC, pick up rental truck, stop at Bass Pro in Wasilla for any last gear. Drive 2.5 hours south to Soldotna. Check into Kenai River Lodge. Cold beer by the river at sunset.
7am departure with our lead guide. Back-troll the upper Kenai for kings. Even if you don't land one, you'll understand what trophy fishing feels like. Afternoon: downtown Soldotna for dinner at Frosos.
All-day float targeting sockeye. Two tides, two positions. Limits are common on peak July days. Full fish cleaning and vacuum-sealing by 4pm. This is the Kenai's signature experience.
Morning: Drive the 20 miles to Kasilof River for a more intimate float experience. Afternoon: Homer Spit for halibut if you want to add deep-sea fishing to your trip (3-hour drive each way).
Hire our fly fishing specialist for a guided trout float. Sight-fishing to wild rainbows on bead patterns — arguably the most technical and satisfying day of the week. Strictly catch & release.
August-September only: Full day targeting silver salmon. We schedule extra wildlife stops — bears fishing for sockeye, bald eagles, and moose on the bank. Best photography day of the trip.
Ship your fish from Soldotna (same-day pickup to your door), or pack in your cooler for checked baggage. Stop at Turnagain Arm for beluga whale spotting. Evening flight from ANC.
