2027 Sockeye Rigging
How to Rig Your Sockeye Salmon Flipping setup for 2027
Setting up your terminal tackle correctly is critical for sockeye flossing. Our 2027 guide covers line test, weight choice, leader length, and coho fly selections.
High-Tensile Mainline & Leader
Sockeye are exceptionally powerful. Use a 25lb to 30lb test monofilament or braided mainline, combined with a 20lb to 25lb fluorocarbon leader to handle heavy scrapes on gravel.
Choosing the Right Weight
Use hollow-core pencil lead or slinky weights. Weight should bounce along the gravel without hanging up. Adjust between 1/4 and 3/4 oz based on flow speed.
Leader Length & Fly Placement
Your leader must be between 4 and 6 feet long. Tie a sparse yarn fly or Coho Fly to a size 2/0 octopus hook. Too long a leader results in foul-hooked fish.
