Waders for Alaska
Alaska Waders — Your Most Important Piece of Gear
The Kenai River is fed by glaciers. Even in July, the water temperature hovers around 48°F. If you are bank fishing or getting in and out of a drift boat, high-quality chest waders are non-negotiable. Here is what works and what fails in Alaska.
Gore-Tex breathable waders with layered fleece underneath are superior for hiking and comfort.
Good for standing in freezing water all day, but terrible if you have to hike.
Felt soles are BANNED in Alaska. You must use rubber-soled wading boots, ideally with studs.
A snug wading belt is a critical safety item in fast Kenai currents.
